Innovation requires flexibility – not just in technology, but in roles
In my role as a Scrum Master, my core responsibility is ensuring my team stays focused, productive, and high-performing. But at viesure, that’s just the starting point. I’ve been fortunate to be part of so many exciting initiatives — from brainstorming ideation sessions to participating in a game-changing innovation workshop with our stakeholders and implementation partners. These experiences are far outside the scope of a typical Scrum Master position in a traditional company, but that’s what makes viesure so unique.
At viesure, you’re encouraged to stretch beyond your formal job title. You’re given the freedom to explore, innovate, and contribute to projects that may be completely outside your usual domain. We’re not limited by traditional roles, which means you won’t be either.
Is Scrum a bad choice?
Not at all! Scrum is an incredibly powerful tool — if it’s the right tool for the job. But innovation doesn’t come with a one-size-fits-all approach. Sometimes you need a hammer, and sometimes you need a microscope. At viesure, our toolbox isn’t restricted to just a few “company standards” — we have the flexibility to use whichever approach fits best, whether that’s Scrum, Double Diamond, or even less common frameworks like Ranger.
The key is that we’re trusted to choose what works for our team at any given moment. That level of trust and autonomy is what makes working at viesure such an exciting experience.
How do we decide what to use?
As an innovation center, we’re not doing traditional IT work. Our focus is on research and development, testing, and implementation, not on maintaining what we’ve already built. This means we’re constantly adapting and evolving. The framework and toolset we use depends on where we are in the innovation process.
For instance, when we’re working with emerging technologies, the team needs the agility to react to frequent changes while also setting boundaries on how much time to invest in experimentation before making key decisions. On the other hand, when technology moves into a growth phase, we can plan more systematically and focus on delivering concrete, working solutions.
The product life cycle also plays a role. When we develop something entirely new to the market, this will involve a lot of experimentation and pivots. But for products that are already established, we can focus on refining and incrementally improving them. And here’s the exciting part — at viesure, we’re doing both.
What really drives our success?
It’s not just about frameworks or methodologies, it’s about people. The most important part of my role is creating a team culture where it feels safe to speak up, share ideas, and solve problems together. We experiment, we fail fast, and we keep our focus on achieving shared goals. No framework will hand you a ready-made recipe for success — this is where soft skills and personal dynamics come into play.
At viesure, we value technical skills, of course, but we also put a huge emphasis on team fit and collaboration. The final stage of our interview process is all about mindset and personal compatibility. We ask ourselves: Can we imagine collaborating with the candidates? How do they handle challenges? Are they willing to push beyond their comfort zone? And most importantly, how will they contribute to the team dynamic through both the highs and inevitable lows?
This commitment to find the right people is what sets us apart. We aim to hire experts who are best in their field, but we don’t focus solely on skills. We hire for culture and for long-term team success.
What are the key soft skills at viesure?
Two things stand out to me: building partnerships on equal footing and creating trust-based, respectful relationships. Every time I walk into a room, I remind myself: I’m OK, you’re OK. We all bring our own expertise and I trust my team members to know what’s best for them, just as they trust that my input will be valued.
This mutual respect and trust are at the heart of what makes viesure such an amazing place to work. It’s not just about technical innovation, it’s about creating an environment where people feel empowered, supported, and ready to bring their best selves to work every day.
It’s not all pink glasses – challenges are real
Let’s be real—it’s not all smooth sailing. We face challenges like any other company. In fact, working in an innovation center means we encounter problems that can be especially complex and unpredictable. Whether it’s organizational hurdles, resource constraints, unrealistic expectations, negative emotions, or the frustration that comes with things not going as planned, these challenges are very real.
But here’s where the mindset plays the key role – see problems not as setbacks; but as part of the process. Come together as a team, trust in each other’s expertise, and navigate through the uncertainty with an open mind. We experiment, we adapt, and when something doesn’t work, we shall be able to fail fast and learn from it.
We embrace transparency—problems are not swept under the rug, and difficult conversations are encouraged. It’s this open culture that creates space to address issues, solve them together, and ultimately grow stronger as a team. We don’t expect perfection, we expect progress. And that’s what makes us different.
